December 21, 2012 – Part 2
Please note: I am not a seer, prophet, or psychic (although some friends will say I’m a bit on the insane side). I don’t pretend to have any secret knowledge. I’m just a writer with an active imagination and, maybe a few useful ideas.
Yesterday I wrote about the current Ahau in which we are living and how it has appeared to meet the “keystone” aspect of the Mayan prophecy. The prophecy says that it is a time of remembering and recording knowledge, and since 1993, when this Ahau began, the technology we use to learn about our world has evolved from printed books to the Internet and more. This shows that there might be something to the Mayan prophecies – at least something to consider.
The next Ahau (Ahau 2) begins on December 21, 2012 and states that there will be food for the first half and misfortunes for half. The prophecy also says that it will be a time for coming together for a cause and an end to the “word of God.” The last time this Ahau cycled through was from 1756 to 1776, a time when the foundations were laid for the creation of the United States.
We will also be experiencing an event that occurs only every 26,000 years as we transit from the lower part of the Milky Way, through the Galactic center to the upper side. The Earth will also adjust its rotation (called a tribulation), which will have an impact on the Earth’s magnetic field.
What does all this mean? It is a time of healing and reevaluation, during which we decide our own future as a species. I infer from the part of the prophecy, which says the “word of God” is ended, that we now have to decide, without judgment from higher forces, whether we really want to continue to be the dominant species on this planet – and if we do, how we make that happen.
To achieve this understanding we can start by answering some basic questions:
- Do we really need war to resolve our disputes, or is there another way to resolve conflicts. We are, for the most part, one large family separated by continents, language and culture, but, in many ways we are more alike than different.
- Are the forms of governance really meeting the needs of the governed and, if not, what needs to change so that every person on the planet has all the food, shelter, clothing, health care and educational opportunities to grow as a contributing member of society.
- We can also ask the same questions about religion and how it is serving us as individuals and as communities. In many ways science and religion are merging to create a more dynamic picture of our relationship to God and the Universe. Its possible that taking things on faith may be replaced more and more by the discipline of proof.
- How can we either use technology to heal and better manage the planet, or abandon technology that no longer serves a purpose or negatively impacts the quality of our lives and the life of the planet.
Its entirely possible that the next Ahau will give us the opportunity to create an entirely new world, which balances our needs as human beings with the Earth and Universe. As a Zen Master once said, “We’ll see.”
Tomorrow: Ahau 13 – a test of our resolve and commitment.

December 21, 2012 – Part 1
Please note: I am not a seer, prophet, or psychic (although some friends will say I’m a bit on the insane side). I don’t pretend to have any secret knowledge. I’m just a writer with an active imagination and, maybe a few useful ideas.
I’ve been watching a lot of programs, lately, about December 21, 2012 and what it might mean to us and our little planet. I especially began to look into the Mayan prophecies to speculate about what might be coming around that time.
For this article I decided to start with where we are in the Mayan calendar. The calendar, first of all, appears to explore the march of time as it unfolds for the planet and its governments. It has little to do with individuals, except that we live with the consequences of these changes.
If I read the march of time correctly, the Mayans seem to say that time is not linear, but, rather cyclical, repeating patterns with ever increasing intensity depending on the social and technical advances of the time in which each generation is living.
At the moment we are living in Ahau 4, which began in 1993 and ends on December 21, 2012. In this Ahau there is the mention of scarcity and famine, which is part of almost every Mayan prophecy. Each prophecy, though, has a “keystone” concept by which the accuracy of the prophecy may be measured. In the case of Ahau 4 the keystone is: It is the time of remembering and recording knowledge.
Starting in 1993 the Internet, for all intents and purposes, was in its infancy. Since then, the Internet has become tremendous repository of knowledge. Its entirely possible for anyone to get on the Internet and learn about business, science, philosophy, politics and just about anything else imaginable in just a few minutes.
During this same period human communication has evolved from phones tied to an office or home to cell phones that can not only receive calls, but texts, emails, and voice mail. Our cell phones can also store our contacts, favorite music and personal pictures. In fact, its entirely possible to run a business from a cell phone and, thanks to “cloud” applications, we can even back up all our data on our personal computers, and a designated corporate computer – all wirelessly.
Earlier this week I reported on an experiment starting at the University of Washington for fall Semester, according to the University District Blog published by Fisher Broadcasting. According to the article, forty graduate students will use Amazon Kindle DX electronic readers in place of both textbooks and classroom reading materials this semester. If this experiment is successful, printed text books just might go the way of the Blackboard.
The first test of a prophecy is that it predicts something that can be measured. Tomorrow, I’ll speculate about what might be coming in the next Ahau, which starts on December 21, 2012.

Meditation As A Staycation
When I was fired about three weeks ago I was oddly relieved. I had not enjoyed a real vacation in over two years so I decided to take one. Of course it could not be a “get outa Dodge” kind of vacation, so I decided to make it a kind of “staycation” where I would just relax, put my feet up and meditate.
Specifically I decided to meditate on my strengths and, in the process, work to come up with a way to either get a job or create a project that would let them shine through.
What brought this to mind was a discussion I had about two weeks ago with a wealthy Idahoan. He is a millionaire, although you wouldn’t know it. He is one of those millionaires next door that have been written about from time to time. He lives in a middle class neighborhood, drives a 5 year old Honda (he always buys Hondas) and sends his kids to public schools.
When I told him about my situation he gave me a very simple piece of advice: Look at my strengths and then find a way to express them. While we all have weaknesses, he told me, they don’t matter when we choose a path that lets us express all of what we are.
The secret, he said, was to look at what I do that is easy and fun. Something that I look forward to in the morning and look back at in the evening with a sense of satisfaction – regardless of what challenges I might encounter. In short, according to my friend, find a comfort zone and stay in it no matter what.
And how will I know I’m in my comfort zone? Simple, when I feel relaxed and at ease most of the time. (Sounds like a line from Star Wars).
I’m still searching, but I think I’m getting closer. The headaches are not as severe and I’m starting to remember my own name. I’m looking for something that is both financially and emotionally rewarding. I’m getting closer. I’ll keep you apprised of my progress.

Cats On The Prowl
Have you ever noticed that cats know when you are looking at them? I have cats in my neighborhood that stop in my yard regularly to stare at stuff, nap or both.

Roses At Julia Davis Park
This morning one of the cats was having a staring contest with one of my trees when I just happened to look in his direction. His face was set in a way that he could not see me, but then, suddenly, he looked straight at me with a distinct air of indignation – as though I was interrupting something very important.
After almost an entire minute, he went back to trying to intimidate my tree. After about another five minutes, since the tree was not cooperating, the cat decided a nap was in order.
I love cats.

A Time For Meditation
I have finally decided to listen to my body and mind. I’ve stopped to smell the roses, both yesterday and today. I’m taking time to meditate on my strengths and decide how to use them to heal my mind, body, soul and my life in general.
