Quick Cherry Dessert

This is quick to stir up, bake and serve.  Best of all, it tastes homemade.

For one 13-by-9-inch, 16 generous servings you will need:

cherrydesrt1 cup (2 sticks) butter

1-1/2 cups granulated sugar

4 eggs

1 teaspoon almond extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 can (21 oz.) cherry pie filling

Powdered sugar to dust over top (slightly sweetened whipped cream)

In a large mixing bowl cream together the butter and sugar, add the eggs and beat until lightly fluffy.  Add the almond extract.  Stir in the flour and baking powder and mix until smooth.  Spoon pie filling into cake pan.  Bake 350 degrees F for 45 to 50 minutes or until golden.

To serve, but into 16 pieces.  Place bottom side up on serving plate and dust with powdered sugar.  To add to the splendor spoon slightly sweetened whipped cream over each serving.
